December 11, 2010 Pottery Open House

It's the first snowfall of December, and one thing I know for sure is that chilly weather makes for sweet afternoons of getting cozy with friends. So, I invite you to come by 62 Henry Street for a pottery open house this weekend. Stop by to make merry and buy a gift for someone else or yourself. Also, check out Let's Whisper later that night at the Radio Bean from 7-8pm. http://www.facebook.com/#!/event.php?eid=174932329202485

Happy sixth night of Chanukah! And, here's wishing you the best during whatever holiday you do or don't celebrate in the snowy month of December.

Special thanks to David Zacharis for awesome flyers!

two-week leave

This is for the soldiers and I made it as a "to do" list for soldiers coming home on a two-week leave. It was shown in the Soda Plant at the 2010 Art Hop that took place in the South End of Burlington, Vermont September 10th and 11th. http://www.seaba.com/artHop

Specifically, I made this piece for Andy Siegriest and his family. The Siegriests live in Westford, Vermont and Andy is on his second deployment to Afghanistan. When soldiers are deployed it is never easy for anyone. Not for the families, the friends, the community or the soldiers themselves. And, although coming home can be a dream come true, I can only imagine that there are bitter sweet parts as well. To see your children growing up, to feel the worry that sits in your mother's heart, and having to get on a plane again, to name a few. Your family is an inspiration to me.

September's Work

September, oh September! As a teacher, I have a very complicated relationship with September and it's shorter days. It's when my summer travels slow down to make time for early alarm clocks, packed lunches and students. It's exciting and daunting. Above are the pictures of the work I've made so far this school year. So, here's to this September and all that this new school year may bring.

Etsy

I just returned back to Vermont after spending two weeks traveling with the The Smittens (an incredible and euro-famous indie-pop band) while they toured Europe! What an incredible time.

Needless to say, I have not been in the studio, but I did get my Etsy account up and running. Check it out.

Images of my Choplet tea set and Summer colanders are also featured in the Etsy Treasury and on the blog "A Road Less Traveled."

hallelujah the oil has stopped gushing.

I made this tea pot set a few weeks ago - while I was feeling very frustrated with the slow solutions to the oil spill. It's called "clean birds, clean water."

Choplet

My partner and I just spent a month in NYC to see family and expolore the city. While there, I worked at Choplet in Brooklyn. It is a fantastic studio space with a beautiful backyard garden run by Nadeige Choplet. I'll miss my afternoon L train trips from Greenwich village to Williamsburg. Here are a few things from my time at the Choplet studio. http://www.choplet.com/
